Soccer Season!!

.
We are mid way through the spring soccer season. This is Joshua's first attempt at playing soccer on a team. He loves it! In order for him to be on a team this year, Michael has to coach the team. There were too many preschoolers and not enough coaches. It has been so much fun for Josh to have his daddy as the coach. Michael is also enjoying his first coaching experience with six cute, preschoolers.

I have had fun watching my husband interact with each of the kids. The first couple of practices the kids were spending more time picking dandelions and doing somersaults on the grass than kicking the ball. The first game was so fun to watch as most of the preschoolers were trying to figure out which direction to go. They have sure improved in just three short weeks. This last game almost all the kids scored a goal and they were getting into the game.

Josh seems to be very aggressive with the ball and wants to dominate it. I am amazed at how fast he has learned the game. The first game he made 7 goals and has continued this the last couple of games. It is hard at this age to get across the importance of team work and not being a "one man show". Of course, as his mommy, I am very proud anytime he makes a goal, even if it is for the other team! Here is Papa giving Joshy a high five! Joshy loved showing off for his grandparents at the first soccer game.
Jeff is playing soccer too. He played in first and second grade but felt it wasn't his sport. This year he showed an interest in playing so we signed him up. Jeff by nature is not a very competitive person. He is quite athletic but doesn't have the competitive spirit. He has picked up the game very quickly and is doing great. Michael had a bit of a pep talk with him before his last game and encouraged him to have lots of fun and get in the action.
This along with his new, snazzy, soccer shoes seemed to give him the drive to play a little harder. He scored his first goal ever! I was a very happy mommy! Not because I need him to score a goal to be proud of him, but because this gave him the boost of confidence that he needed. He was all smiles and played that much harder the second half.

Soccer season has kept us very busy this last month and next, but I just LOVE spending my Saturdays cheering my youngins on, eating the food from the concession stand and soaking up the warm spring sun. Well, the last part is more a dream than a reality. It got real windy at the last game, bitterly cold. I had multiple layers and a down blanket and I was still cold. It kinda made me want to get out in the game and run my hardest to warm up. Ok, that would be a little weird for my big son to see his mommy do that, so I refrained and just grin and barred the chilly weather.

I really like being a Soccer mom and wife!
